I knew at a young age that I wanted a profession where I could be of service to others. I love to help and encourage people. My undergraduate work was focused on biology and premed training. After graduating, I took a year off of school. I worked in a research lab at Northwestern University in Chicago for half the year, and the second half of that year I worked as an intern (with my now husband) on a small organic farm in Osceola, Wisconsin. Working with the soil and spending time with plants for a season was exactly what my soul needed, and little did I know began my holistic training.

Before applying to medical schools, a friend told me about naturopathic medicine. My eyes were opened! When I discovered a helping profession that utilized natural elements to strengthen our physiology and improve health, I had found my calling. I turned 180 degrees from my traditional medical pathway and was accepted into the National College of Natural Medicine (Now NUNM) in Portland. Before I arrived, I got married in a lovely country ceremony, and we honeymooned our way across the states to Oregon for this next journey.

As soon as I had my first homeopathic class, I fell in love. I took every extra course in homeopathy I could and attended my first session of NESH while I was still in medical school. My family also began to grow while I was there. My firstborn even attended a few of my early NESH classes! As a busy medical student (and new mother), I wasn’t able to full grasp the depth of information in its full capacity, so I took the course again 10 years later. After years of experience, attending NESH a second time deeply enriched my practice and gave me a new perspective.

I practice naturopathic medicine in a small clinic in downtown Camas, WA. I have a general practice that ranges from babies to wise elders – the whole family. In my naturopathic practice I utilize a lot of botanical medicine and homeopathy as well as nutrition and lifestyle counseling. I treat a variety of ailments with the majority consisting of women’s health and hormones, allergies, gastrointestinal complaints, and metabolic dysfunction. I particularly enjoy helping people who struggle with anxiety and depression, in which I feel homeopathy has a strong role. I have seen homeopathy change peoples’ lives in profound ways, including my own.

My practice isn’t my whole life. There is too much on this great earth to enjoy to only work. My children, ages 3, 8, and 13, are a huge focus in my life. My husband, a music therapist, constantly fills our home with music, which brings on much dancing and singing! We try to be adventurous outdoors when we can through camping, hiking, biking, and swimming. We are also all artists in my home, and as the seasons change so do our primary interest as they shift through photography, drawing, yarn work, or games. Currently, one of my main passions and creative pursuits is fine cooking and artfully making food that is nutritious as well as delicious!

From NESH:  We remember when Brooke took our NESH class years ago and were so happy to have her back in class again recently. She sat right in the front and we could use her as a barometer to see if our ideas were getting across. She was locked-in, as we say and it always felt like what we were teaching was just what she needed to hear that weekend. As parents of three kids, too, we appreciate the juggle, the prioritization of family and fun and know that it all helps inform a successful practice, too.
