Exploring Acutes: Take Your Case Analysis Capacity to the Next Level

Advancing from where the NESH Two-Year Course leaves off, this series allows us the opportunity to review and deepen our understanding and application of all the work we’ve done together throughout these 35+ years – further helping translate theory into practice. Relevant for all levels of experience.

Over the years, we’ve discussed the various challenges that persist in homeopathic practice. The most common one centers on the acute/chronic distinction. Because this course is exclusively for our NESH Alumni, everyone enrolled will have a solid grounding in this acute/chronic discussion and know how to use the tools we covered thus far.

This is an acute prescribing course that actually makes sense. Building on our shared understanding of acute/chronic concepts and the acute illnesses we’ve already explored together, we’ll eliminate the most common misunderstandings that plague other acute courses by applying our established knowledge to the acute arena.

In our main Two-Year Course, we spend most of our time discussing remedies typically used in chronic cases. In this course, we’ll cover remedies that frequently arise in acute situations – ones we did not have time to discuss before but that you’ll often need.

We’ll explore 20-30 remedies over 12-months, across 6 modules. We’ll present the complete Cycle and Segments materia medica descriptions of these remedies (if not already presented in the Two-Year Course) – not just their acute applications.

The format mirrors our Polycrest Courses from this same series. Each Module will include one main topic, with 1-3 cases for each of the 4-6 remedies discussed and a Live Zoom session to get your questions answered. Using real patients from our decades-long practice, you will have the opportunity to parse out symptoms, find rubrics, think about differentialmateria medica, consider potencies and follow-up, and ask the important questions generated by these case studies. You’ll actively be able to integrate your homeopathic knowledge and improve your ability to think through cases and prescribe, while gaining exposure to a wide-variety of acute ailments.

Each Module will focus on a particular system of the body. In addition to cases and relevant materia medica, discussion will focus on the common acute conditions we see most often in practice and family life, plus a few more serious ones. Additional comments highlighting important physiological  and anatomical aspects of each ailment provide a framework of knowledge to contextualize treatment choices for your patients.

The main goal is to put you in a position where you understand the homeopathic principles involved in each acute condition and feel confident prescribing in these situations.

Learning Objectives for this Course:
• Identify who is in a true acute state versus an acute flareup of a chronic condition, and how to treat accordingly.
• Describe remedies with narrow spheres of influence beyond what was presented in the NESH Two-Year Course and when to use them vs. a more broad acting remedy.
• Identify the most pertinent symptoms associated with each acute ailment presented and describe any unique considerations for each in order to feel more confident prescribing in these situations.

Anecdote from Dr. Herscu’s early years – case-based materia medica studies pay off when it counts:

Let me share the short version of a story many of you know already. By the time I entered medical school, I had studied homeopathy extensively. At the end of my first month, I was asked to help a woman passing kidney stones who also had a kidney infection. Things weren’t going well. Though I had never witnessed anyone in that level of pain before, I found the remedy that made her pain-free and allowed her to go home instead of being admitted.

For me, it was my first real-life kidney infection experience. However, I had read countless homeopathic cases and remedy descriptions covering such situations, so I simply drew on my training and functioned effectively. This is the main outcome I’m hoping to achieve for you.”

NOTE: while Dr. Herscu will use homeopathic software developed by him during these presentations as a teaching tool designed specifically to aid in case taking and analysis using the Herscu Cycles & Segments approach, the software itself will not be specifically discussed and NO computer repertory software of any type is required for this course.

Extra BONUS Feature: enrollment in these courses includes optional 12-month access to Herscu Module Software Demos in the NESH Student Portal. These are recordings of Live Sessions demonstrating the technical use of the software for our online students. Many of our alumni have been asking for a software refresher – so here’s your chance! (NOTE: this is NOT part of the course curriculum and is set up as an entirely separate and optional Module in the NESH Portal.)
